Resilient Women Leaders

Resilient Women Leaders Programme

Starts Wednesday, September 21st 2022

Online via Zoom

Become confident in who you are, and what you do.

This programme is specifically designed to develop the capability of women to lead themselves and others. We focus on the commonly shared barriers that women, irrespective of age or sector, identify as preventing them from reaching their full potential.

Using the Resilient Leaders Elements (RLE) and C-Me colour profiling, this 12-week course will boost your confidence as a leader, giving you the tools to identify the strengths you can rely on in times of change and even crisis. It will also give you a network of other amazing women who will support you during the programme and beyond, helping to build your strength and belief in who you are and what you do.

What you will gain

Confidence and competence in your resilient leadership

Knowledge of your strengths and areas of development and the tools to work on them

Awareness of what takes you from pressure to stress and how to rebalance

Understanding and application of the RLE™:

Clarity of Direction: People know where they are going and why they are going there

Leadership Presence: You have “presence” even when you’re not in the room

Awareness: Everyone, including you, works at their best, resulting in higher productivity and motivation through challenging times

Resilient Decision Making: You have the best chance of making good decisions when it really counts

"It was exactly the right course at the right time, insightful and expertly delivered by the coaches. A lovely confidence and motivational boost it has provided clarity and increased my resilience as a leader."

City CV & 2to3days present: Embrace your imposter

Wednesday October 5th, 12pm

via Zoom

Imposter syndrome comes in many forms – not just self-doubt. Imposter syndrome can affect anyone of any gender, at any age and stage of their careers. It’s also been identified as a key symptom during perimenopause.

You’ll leave this inspiring session with an understanding of your own imposter, what type of imposter you are, and a toolkit to help you love your imposter as a friend not a foe.

We will walk you through the realities of imposter syndrome with some real-life case studies and then uncover ways to harness the fear, reframe it and overcome any feelings of being an imposter in the workplace.

This free event will cover:

  • What imposter syndrome is
  • How it manifests
  • Why we suffer from imposter syndrome
  • The five types of imposters
  • Imposter syndrome solutions

This interactive session will be led by City CV’s CEO & Founder, Victoria McLean. Passionate about DE&I, Victoria is an international keynote speaker at female-focused events. Her original insights address topics including imposter syndrome, the art of personal branding, the impact of menopause on business success, setting boundaries at work, and staying visible in a hybrid world.

Sarah Anthony

UK Tax Partner – Indirect tax

I lead KPMG’s North Indirect Tax team.  Having worked 4 days per week for over 8 years, since returning from maternity leave the second time, I’ve been promoted to Director and then Partner nearly four years ago.

Typically, I take every Friday off work but this varies as I work flexibly depending on work and personal commitments so sometimes this means working longer one week and less the next week.

With two daughters in primary school and a husband who works full time, life is hectic so this flexibility brings me massive benefits. While part-time working used to be solely about childcare one day per week, now it gives me a precious 6 hours while the kids are at school  meaning I can really enjoy time with family and friends at weekends.

Flexibility is key, but I’ve never felt the arrangement doesn’t also work for KPMG – fortunately I have a great team around me which really helps.

Neil Whitworth

Senior Manager -  Stamp tax

I have been working at KPMG for over 18 years -  most of that time I was full time. I decided in the Spring of 2021 that I would like to drop down to 4 days per week, with Mondays as my non-working day. A question I have often been asked is “but don’t you finish up doing 5 days’ work in 4?” The answer is, in the main, “no”. I have a very supportive team both immediate and within the wider tax department and to date, with one small exception, I have not had to do any work on Mondays.

The ability to work flexibly has been a real benefit to me and has very positively affected my work life balance. As my role is client facing and transaction based,  I often finish up working later in the day meaning I lose some ‘home time’ during the week. However, having a three day weekend allows me to spend much more quality time with my family and has resulted in me having a calmer, happier and, I think, more productive work life.

Senior Manager - VAT specialist

I am a VAT specialist at KPMG, with  over 15 years of experience advising on VAT, specifically on land and property issues.

I've  worked flexibly for over 5 years now following my return from maternity leave. I find that this promotes a healthy work-life balance, and allows me to meet other commitments outside work. I initially worked three days a week and have now moved up to four days a week since my little one started full time school. I flex my working hours as well to meet certain commitments such as after-school activities.

KPMG supports flexible working and I've found that entire teams come together to help me make this a success!

Tara Jupp

Senior Manager, Corporate tax

I am a Senior Manager within the London Regions Corporate Tax team, based in our Cambridge office.  I joined KPMG fairly recently and work the equivalent of three days a week (60% FTE).

I spread my working hours over four days a week, with one non-working day - none of my working hours are standard 9am-5pm.  I work two “longer days” of 9.30am – 4.30pm (Tuesdays & Thursdays) and two “shorter days” of 9.30pm – 2pm (Wednesdays and Fridays).  This pattern works really well for me as it means that I can take my children to school every morning (and give my puppy a quick walk) before starting work and can pick my children from school three days out of five.  This also means I can take them to their multitude of extra-curricular activities after school, as well as help my ailing, elderly in-laws.

Spreading my hours over four days helps the business as I can keep on top of projects and keep work moving forwards, as well as being more available to my clients. Proactive time management, delegation and meeting scheduling help me to manage my workload within my part time hours.
