Part-Time Operations Manager

Hindles Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys
Job Type:
Closing Date:

Hindles are a medium-sized firm of patent and trade mark attorneys based in Edinburgh and Liverpool, but with clients around the UK, Europe and the world. We compete on the quality and relevance of the advice we provide to a range of customers, from start-ups to global corporations. We are currently growing rapidly as our clients also succeed and grow.

As we expand we plan to recruit a part-time Operations Manager / Practice Manager to drive our further development. We are looking for an individual with proven expertise in managing processes, projects, and people, to run core business functions and support and develop our very talented team. Our Operations Manager will need to share our very genuine commitment to excellence, and our energy and drive.

The role includes taking primary day-to-day responsibility for ensuring efficient operation of business processes and office functions, leading from the front and taking a hands-on role where required; managing, monitoring, reviewing and developing processes; championing continuous improvement and development; managing documentation; developing business resilience; managing suppliers; assisting with compliance, and managing change and new projects.

The role also includes acting as HR lead; managing staff development, training and performance; developing our recruitment and retention strategy and our HR policies; driving equality, diversity and inclusion; supporting, enabling and developing our team while addressing the challenges and delivering the benefits of hybrid and flexible working; advocating for our staff, and keeping our people high on our agenda.

We are looking for an individual with proven experience of successfully managing both processes and people in a similar business context. Experience in our industry is not expected, although we anticipate hiring someone with a background in professional services, consulting or possibly technology businesses. Experience in a high-growth business environment, and expertise in one or more of finance, marketing or IT would also be an advantage but is not essential. Strong communication skills, both interpersonally and in writing, are a prerequisite.

We intend that the role will be part-time, between 16 and 25 hours per week, spread over at least four days. We are well set up for flexible and hybrid working, and have supported these since before the pandemic, but would prefer at least some office working from our premises in central Edinburgh. Salary is expected to be in the range £40 - £50k pro rata (negotiable). Long term prospects are excellent as the business continues to develop.

Applications should include a CV and covering email or letter, for the attention of Alistair Hindle. The closing date is 9am on Monday 21 March 2022.

Hindles are signatories to the IP Inclusive charter and are committed to its principles.
