We are currently representing an exciting new client with a compelling (and rare!) career opportunity looking to appoint a Director of People on a part time basis to join their leadership team as they embark on a new phase of business growth. An award-winning consultancy based in London with the aspiration and financial backing to expand considerably in size, you will be a proven senior HR generalist who combines the experience to define and lead the People agenda with the know-how, hands on approach and influencing skills to impact a transformation in the delivery of the HR service to the business.

The Director of People will lead a small transactional team to conceptualise and implement the People Strategy to meet the evolving requirement of the business and develop the company’s existing HR capability as the business scales and matures. With a workforce of c. 100 people that is largely dispersed, the aim will be to grow organically and through acquisition to increase in size two or three-fold in the next 3-5 years. As an innovative consultancy with an enviable client portfolio, their continued success depends on the capability, commitment and dedication of their employees, making this role of pivotal importance to the firm.

The role will operate on a 3-4 days/week (or equivalent) basis, with a base location in London but with scope to operate with a fair degree of flexibility. Base salary in the region of a £90-100,000 fte + package.


The role

Working closely with the CEO and CFO and operating as part of the senior leadership team in this partnership setting, you will lead team of 3 in the People department. You will drive the People strategy and make hands on change in all areas of People policy and strategy, with focal areas including:

  • Talent acquisition strategy including the development (in conjunction with the TA specialist) of an optimal resource structure and skills pipeline across all areas of business specialism
  • Development of an appropriate employee value proposition, well-being, inclusion, learning & development and reward strategies
  • Establish and embed the cultural basis that makes the company unique
  • Development of the People Team organisational structure, considering the required roles and responsibilities appropriate, and cultivating plans for a future group HR central service proposition
  • Embed new ways of working based on the changes from the global pandemic, following on from the shift in off-site and flexible location working
  • Conduct a review of existing People policies and processes and enhance as required, including recruitment, employee onboarding, employee & management development, performance review processes, governance principles
  • Develop and implement employee engagement strategy and initiatives, including the integration of newly acquired workforces
  • Organisational development to deliver effective workforce planning, succession and talent management


The person

  • A proven record of impact and successful delivery operating in a HR leadership role within a similar commercial operating environment (such as professional services, knowledge driven industries)
  • Excellent experience to positively impact in the areas of Talent Acquisition & Management, HR service delivery and developing strong initiatives around change, culture, productivity and engagement
  • A blend of smaller and larger company backgrounds to combine the knowledge of best practise with dynamic, pragmatic and agile implementation
  • Exceptional influencing and proactive communication skills, able to engage at all levels and used to presenting strategic concepts to board level
  • A strong action orientation and the ability to deliver with speed and quality
  • Enjoys working with high levels of accountability and autonomy and a strong service delivery orientation
  • The proven ability to lead and motivate a team
  • Deep HR generalist knowledge, with a highly practical and commercially astute mindset
