About the role 

As Finance Director, your role is to lead the finance function of the business. You’ll understand what best practice financial management looks like for a business like us and work closely with other members of the Exec and Senior Leadership teams to ensure Given achieves this. You’ll manage our finance team, including our Finance Manager and Finance Assistant, to maintain the smooth running of the finance function, while producing management information and analysis to guide effective business decisions. 

You’ll be ambitious about the positive impact you can have on the agency’s financial performance and always looking for opportunities to improve how things work. You’ll be expected to proactively identify and deliver improvements that create value for the business, for example spotting patterns in over-spending or identifying efficiencies. And you’ll be responsible for making sure we have the right systems, processes and solutions for our size, scale and future plans. 

As a member of the Exec team you’ll report into our CEO. You’ll collaborate with other members of the Exec to shape and deliver our plans to profitably grow the business. Senior colleagues will seek you out for your financial knowledge and advice, and you’ll help upskill other members of the team. You’ll report quarterly to our Board on progress and performance, and contribute to solving strategic and commercial challenges and opportunities. 

About you 

● You’ll be at least 10 years post qualified, preferably ACA or ACCA. 

● You’ll have experience in a marketing services agency or management consultancy environment , and understand the challenges associated with running a project based business. Ideally you’ll know Paprika inside out. 

● You’ll have helped take a business through an ambitious growth plan, managing expansion and investment in growth, while maintaining margins. You may also have taken a business through a transaction or process from founder-led to a second generation leadership model. 

● You’ll have managed through business transformation – whether in the shape of adding new service lines, acquiring new teams or opening new offices 

● You’ll be strategic in approach – able to shape the bigger picture and challenge the model rather than just maintaining the model 

● You’ll be an excellent accountant with an ambition to use your financial knowledge to help advise and make commercial and strategic business decisions. 

● You’ll be excited about helping to grow a business and be proactive in the way you spot opportunities to help make that happen. 

● You’re collaborative and comfortable working with senior leaders and junior team members alike - influencing thinking and decision making. 

● You’ll bring experience of educating, supporting and empowering others to get the best results, within and beyond your team.

 

Core responsibilities 

● Overseeing financial management across accounting entries, accounts payable, aged debits, expenses, payroll and cashflow. 

● Working with our accountants to ensure accurate and timely VAT quarterly reporting, end of year submissions and other compliance matters. 

● Producing annual budgets, regular forecasts, quarterly reforecasts and 3-5 year financial plans as agreed with the CEO. 

● Leading the growth and development of the finance team. 

● Overseeing management information and ad hoc reporting and analysis, as required by the Exec team and Board. 

● Serving as the finance partner on the Exec team identifying operational and strategic risks and opportunities and assisting the exec team in the operation of the company.

● Identifying and evolving key performance metrics and establishing ways of measuring Given’s performance against these metrics. 

● Overseeing and advising on our financial processes and systems, including agency management software and banking. 

● Managing company pension scheme, including monthly submissions, company credit cards and annual insurance policies. 

● Managing costs and identifying efficiencies and ways to improve profitability. ● Developing pricing strategies, including utilisation and rate reviews. 

● Leading on commercial negotiations, with client contracts and across IT, procurement, property etc.
